Books!

Is Breast Best? Taking on the Breastfeeding Experts and the New High Stakes of Motherhood. By Joan B. Wolf. NY: NYU Press. 2011.
This is my favourite kind of book to read: it is utterly compelling, highly articulate, thoroughly researched and challenges socially accepted bodies of knowledges and practices. In this case, Joan B. Wolf questions the science that authorises public health campaigns for breastfeeding, which have become increasingly urgent and even punitive in the United States from where Wolf writes. This is a provocative argument and will meet with resistance, but it is also well overdue.
